U.S. import tariffs on electronics (2026)

Electronics are among the most tariff-sensitive imports, and the rates vary widely between products that look similar. Smartphones and laptops are exempt from the 2026 forced-labor tariff and pay no Section 301 duty from China, while many accessories pay both.

The table below shows the total duty for each product and origin. Click a code for the full breakdown and every other country.

What drives these rates

  • Smartphones (8517.13) and laptops (8471.30) are on the forced-labor tariff exemption list (HTSUS 9903.05.90) and are not covered by an active Section 301 list, so they enter duty-free from every origin shown.
  • Processing units, circuit boards and power supplies from China pay 25% under Section 301 List 3.
  • Certain high-performance AI chips under 8471.50, 8471.80 and 8473.30 pay a 25% Section 232 semiconductor tariff, with exemptions for many end uses. The calculator flags these codes.
  • Lithium-ion batteries (8507.60) are on the Section 232 auto parts list. The 25% tariff applies only when they are parts for passenger vehicles; otherwise the normal layers apply.
  • Insulated cables with connectors (8544.42.90) are on the Section 232 derivative list (25% of the full customs value). For goods outside chapters 72–76 it applies only if the metal is at least 15% of the article's weight.
