U.S. import tariffs on auto parts (2026)

Parts for passenger vehicles and light trucks pay a 25% Section 232 tariff on top of the base duty (HTSUS 9903.94.05). Parts that qualify under USMCA are exempt, and the EU, Japan, Korea and Taiwan pay a 15% combined rate that includes the base duty.

Auto parts that pay the Section 232 tariff are exempt from the forced-labor tariff and do not also pay the Section 232 steel and aluminum tariff. Goods from China still pay Section 301.

Total duty as a percentage of customs value, with the trade-agreement preference claimed where one exists. Excludes MPF and HMF fees. “+ AD/CVD may apply” marks origins with an antidumping or countervailing duty order that may cover the product; those duties are not included. What drives these rates

  • USMCA-qualifying parts from Mexico and Canada are exempt from the auto parts tariff (9903.94.06). The table shows Mexico with the USMCA claim; the second figure is the rate if the parts do not qualify.
  • The United Kingdom pays a 10% combined rate on listed parts.
  • Some codes on the auto parts list, such as batteries, motors and computers, are general-purpose. The tariff applies only when the goods are parts of passenger vehicles or light trucks, so the calculator flags these codes instead of adding it.
  • Parts of medium- and heavy-duty trucks pay a separate 25% Section 232 tariff (9903.74.08), also flagged by the calculator.
  • Finished passenger vehicles pay 25% (15% combined for the EU, Japan and Korea), trucks 25% and buses 10%.
